Giants in Málaga (0-2)

Real Sociedad continue to go from strength to strength. Tonight the team convincingly beat Málaga to go fifth in the table concluding the weekend action. The defeat to Sevilla was quickly put behind with a good performance against Villarreal and underlined by this evening’s excellent victory in La Rosaleda. The ability to respond which highlights the capacity of this team. Goals from Iñigo and Juanmi, both in the second half, ensured the points were deservedly brought home. Asier Illarramendi was rested by Eusebio and dropped from the starting eleven but th Mutriku-born midfielder had a hand on the win at Málaga after replacing Zurutuza on minute 56.

The Guipuzcoanos went into the match looking determined to take control. The realistas controlled possession, created chances and penetrated from both wings, but lacked fortune in the final third. Málaga conceded metres, but did threaten on occasion. Rulli prevented the hosts going in front while Willian José was gifted a great chance with a snap shot which brushed the post. At the interval, the sensations were positive.

The situation got even better after the break. An Iñigo free-kick was deflected in off a defender and served to give the team and extra dose of confidence. But rather than take the pace down a peg or two, Real Sociedad managed their advantage by setting the tempo for the remaining minutes, as always. Soon after the second goal arrived - Juanmi glancing the ball in from a free-kick. There was few incidents after that. The game was sentenced and the team hardly suffered from that point on. It’s not the first time that this team has looked so dominant and in control. A great performance and on Thursday, we have the Copa. Tonight was another wonderful display to raise expectations.
