“We are sorry”

Asier Illarramendi said that there was nothing positive to be taken from last night’s defeat in Gijon. The player analyzed the game, made a public apology to the fans and insisted that the team must make amends next weekend against Real Betis at Anoeta.

“Practically all of the assessments we have made have been negative. It was a game we want to forget – it was an important game for us but we were not up to the level required right from the start. Before last night’s game we had put in quite a few decent performances and we hope what happened last night was only an accident,” Illarra explained. “The third goal hurt us a little because it came just before half-time and we had only just made it 2-1 and were looking to level the score. In the dressing room at half-time, we agreed that we couldn’t continue that way in the second half and that we had to go flat out to get back into the game. But after Sporting scored a fourth, from then on it was almost impossible”.

On Saturday, Real Betis are guests at Anoeta and Illarra insists that only one result will do: “It’s another important game for us to regain the good sensations we were having and so that we can recover all of the positive things the team was showing before yesterday’s game. We’re at home and we have to take three points and recover the good feeling we had before”.

He ended by apologizing to the fans for Friday’s result and the team’s performance: “I’d like to say sorry to the fans; it was a game we’d rather forget and we hope that it doesn’t happen again. Now we are thinking only about winning on Saturday, only a win will do” he ended.
